GETTING READY -- Amy Weaver, new first grade instructor at Fredericksburg Elementary School and a 10-year veteran of teaching first and second grade students, was busy in her classroom Thursday afternoon following a morning in-service session with other educators, preparing for Meet-The-Teacher Night scheduled tomorrow from 4-6 p.m. at the FES campus, 1608 North Adams. The special occasion will allow parents and children to bring school supplies and meet their teachers in advance of a start Monday morning for the 2009-2010 school year. Big yellow buses will be taking to the roads; new lunch boxes and backpacks will be lined up by doors throughout Gillespie County and over 4,000 students will be returning to school -- most on Monday -- as a new year begins.
Students at St. Mary’s School are the county’s first to return to classes. Approximately 300 pre-schoolers through eighth graders were expected for classes today.
The big day is Monday, when Fredericksburg Independent School District, Harper ISD, Doss Common Consolidated School District, Ambleside School and Fredericksburg Christian School students -- approximately 3500 of them -- will report.
Then on Thursday, Aug. 27, Heritage School will be welcoming students both at its new campus on Smokehouse Lane and at Hill Country Evangelical Free Church.
