Now that the dust has starting to settle on the 2016 volleyball regular season which saw the Harper High School Ladyhorns capture the District 27-2A championship, all eyes are now turning to the Region 4 playoffs.
Because of its number one seeding, earned by finishing atop the district standings, the Ladyhorns have drawn a first round bye in the bi-district playoffs. Later this week, they will face the winner of the match between Shiner (District 26 runner-up, record: 17-4) and Somerville (District 25 third seed, record: 11-18).
The day, date and location for the Harper match have not yet been determined.
HHS goes into the post-season with the momentum produced by a perfect 10-0 league record. The Ladyhorns closed the regular season on Tuesday, Oct. 25, when they topped host Utopia in three games, 25-16, 25-19, 25-17.
This year’s title is the team’s fifth consecutive undefeated district championship.

After topping Utopia, 25-16, in the first game of the Oct. 25 schedule-ending match, the Ladyhorns continued their onslaught by taking the next two contests in an unwavering and down-to-business manner, 25-19 and 25-17.
Sage Wilbanks led Harper with eight kills, while Logan Menzies and Keeley Marschall followed with seven and six, respectively.
Leading in the assists department for the Ladyhorns was Marti Lumpkins with 12 and Haylee Poorman with 10.
When it came to service returns, putting in perfect nights were Lumpkins (14-for-14), Wilbanks (11-for-11) and Menzies (7-for-7).
