There is now another option for those looking to get around town who don’t want the hassle of driving or finding a parking spot.
Open since November, Fredericksburg Trolley is now on the streets, and it’s hard to miss.
With its red and green exteriors and brass, oak and wrought iron interiors, it’s bound to conjure images of a San Francisco trolley.
“We have an agreement with the City of Fredericksburg that we’ll run a shuttle service around town,” said Rebecca Howard, who along with her husband, Joe, runs Fredericksburg Tours, LLC (the trolley’s official name). “We’re currently in a soft run and are getting people familiar with us.”
The trolley’s current hours are Friday, 4-10 p.m., mostly what Howard calls the “dining and attraction run,” where they stop close to restaurants and entertainment. They are also open Saturday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“It’s going wonderful,” Howard said. “Hotels are excited to have us. We pick up and drop off at various points along Main Street, and San Antonio and Austin streets. We cover most of the territory tourists want to visit.”
They plan to offer daily operation during Spring Break and during times of heavy tourism.
As far as Main Street goes, the trolley travels from East Main to West Main to the 700 block.
Howard describes the trolley as having a vintage style. It’s built in America with a Ford chassis and is gasoline powered.
Trolley systems are gaining in popularity in many towns across America, Howard said.
