Fredericksburg High School varsity tennis players Hannah Boubel, Broque Constantine and Claire Maxcey won the Class 4A-Region IV tennis tournament on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 18-19, at the H-E-B Park in Corpus Christi.
Boubel won the tourney for girls’ singles and Constantine/Maxcey won in mixed doubles.
“These kids have worked very hard to reach this goal,” FHS varsity tennis coach Randall King said. “All three of these athletes participated last year in the state tournament, and we hope the experience will prove to be beneficial for them. They will continue to work hard and prepare for the chance to win a gold medal.”
Boubel will be vying for her fourth state title, and will have a chance to be the sixth person in the state’s history to win girls’ singles four years in a row.
Hannah won 7-6, 4-6, 6-2 in the final match that lasted four hours and 22 minutes.
“Alexa Rice, the girl from Boerne, played very well and Hannah was forced to hang tough to earn the medal,” King said.
Constantine/Maxcey won their final set against Ryan Rice and Georgia Rice of Boerne, in a 6-2, 6-1 set.
“(The) mixed doubles duo continues to improve each week and played solid doubles in the final,” King said.
FHS senior Martin Ball was eliminated in boys’ singles during the first round of the meet after a three-and-a-half-hour set.
