Nine Fredericksburg High School Battlin’ Billies volleyball players were recognized on the 2021 District 28-4A All-District awards list last week.
The FHS Battlin’ Billies (26-20) finished with two first-team selections, three second-team selections and four honorable mentions.
Juniors Clara Pluenneke and Sydney Schandua both earned first-team honors. Pluenneke, the Billies’ middle blocker, led the team with a 500-kill season.
Pluenneke made just 149 errors in 1,117 attempts and recorded a kill percentage of 44.8%. Pluenneke also led the Billies in blocks with 109.
Schandua started all season as the Billies’ setter and led the team with 1,096 assists.
She averaged 7.9 assists per set and recorded just 43 errors in 3,064 attempts. Schandua was also the Billies leader in aces with 59.
Senior Genesa Quay, sophomore Anna Terry and junior Zoe Aldrich all received second-team recognition.
Quay spent most of the season as the Billies’ starting libero, where she recorded a team-high 463 digs. Quay also recorded 85 assists, 46 aces and a team-high 787 serve receptions.
Terry did a bit of everything for the Billies, making appearances both in the back row and as an outside hitter. She finished the season with 73 kills, 36 aces, 106 digs and 371 receptions.
Aldrich was the Billies’ starting outside hitter and she trailed Pluenneke in kills with 431. Aldrich also recorded 28 blocks and 163 digs.
The Billies’ honorable mentions included sophomores Ryann Gallagher and Madison Frantzen, junior Sarah Stafford and senior Emma Stewart. As a team, the Billies finished the season as bi-district and area champions and made the program’s deepest playoff run in four seasons.
