The Fredericksburg Elementary School Student Council hosted a canned food drive at Fredericksburg Elementary School on the days of Nov. 1-16.
The theme of the “can”-struction was “Farming for the Food Pantry.”
Kids brought in cans that were used to build a structure. They had to build something related to farming.
The structures were judged by whether it was related to farming, overall appearance, and creativity.
In the end, the Overall Grand Champion winner at FES was Bailey Smith’s fifth grade class! They built a chicken, chicks, and eggs using their 47 cans.
As a reward for winning, FFA will host a petting zoo for Mrs. Smith’s class.
The winner for second grade was Melissa Zeinert’s class.
The winner for third grade was Aubrey West’s class.
The winner for fourth grade was Justin Hagendorf’s class.
The winner for fifth grade was Mrs. Carol Merrill and Ms. Martinez’s class.
The overall canned food total was 1,547 cans.
That does not include peanut butter, dry beans or packaged foods.
All of the food was donated to the Fredericksburg Food Pantry.
