The Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country will award $32,750 in college scholarships to Gillespie County students this year.
“We’re thrilled to make these awards,” said Austin Dickson, the Community Foundation’s Chief Executive Officer. “There were 21 Gillespie County students selected from a pool of several hundred applicants — the recipients’ qualifications are really impressive,” Dickson added.
The Community Foundation manages scholarship funds that support high school students heading to college, university, or trade school.
The scholarships are for students pursuing business, nursing, those with high GPAs, those who have participated in significant community service, students active in agriculture, and many other fields and interests. Most of the scholarships are need-based.
The scholarship recipients will be announced at students’ senior awards celebrations at Fredericksburg High School on May 9, Heritage School on May 12 and Harper High School on May 19.
Additionally, the Community Foundation makes financial grants to Hill Country charities. In 2022, the foundation made $705,233 in grants to Gillespie County nonprofits. Its Community Impact Fund is accepting funding requests from now through June 22.
