St. Martin’s Episcopal Church in Mason is partnering with St. Barnabas’ Episcopal Church in Fredericksburg, 12 other Episcopal churches and the nonprofit Undue Medical Debt to provide relief to those facing high medical bills.
This partnership will cover Mason, Bandera, Blanco, Gillespie, Kendall, Kerr, Kimble, McCulloch, Llano, San Saba and Sutton counties.
Currently, the churches are seeking donations toward a campaign goal of $14,000 to alleviate approximately $3 million of medical debts across these counties.
Rather than covering particular individual’s medical debts, the organization buys bundles of old medical debt to prevent pursuance by collectors.
“St. Martin’s has a history of serving the people of Mason and our neighbors,” James Morris, Bishop’s Warden at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, said. “Please join us in sharing God’s love for all by helping to eliminate the burden of medical debt for those that are in need of our help.”
The campaign’s name was inspired by St. Martin’s dog-friendly environment, and four-legged churchgoer, Skye.
Donations can be made online at unduemedicaldebt. org/campaign/ the-skyes-the-limit/ or a check payable to Undue Medical Debt, P.O. Box 411675, Boston, Massachusetts 02241-1675, memo line St. Martin’s Episcopal Church – 62950.
