Frizzled beef was wartime favorite
Embarking on this article, I had never heard of Frizzled Beef and had no clue what it was. Many decades ago, I saw S.O.S. on the menu at Jessica’s, a restaurant once located at East Ufer and South Adams. I thought I would try it. Turns out it was ground beef on a cracker — two crackers, as I recall. Being naïve, I had not known what S.O.S. stood for. Perhaps a clue, the distress signal, SOS, requires no punctuation and its letters do not stand for anything.
