Kids knew Popeye long before I came along. Olive Oyl was created by E.C. Segar in the 1920s. Popeye joined later. By 1933, his cartoons were played at Walter Knoche’s Palace Theatre. Through these cartoons, Popeye and spinach became synonymous, but spinach was not the favorite of many.
