Louis Jordan Post 244, American Legion, will hold a drive-thru chicken or pork barbecue fundraiser with all the trimmings on Sunday, Jan. 12, starting at 10:30 a.m. until sold out.
Cost for the meal is $12 a plate. The event will be held at the American Legion Hall at 726 S. Washington St.
Cave Creek School Community Club game night is Jan. 24
The Cave Creek School Community Club will host a game club at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24 at the school, 470 Cave Creek Road.
Guests can bring a snack, dessert and drink to share.
The 2025 annual dues payment of $30 per family is due to Jan Iwanicki, P.O. Box 2184, Fredericksburg, TX 78624.
The school property is available for rent by members at $75 a day and for non-members for $150. The school has hosted reunions, parties and association and business meetings.

The first meeting of the Women’s Innovation Network (WIN) in 2025 on Tuesday, Jan. 14, from 6-8 p.m., will be dedicated to a leader-guided workshop based on the concepts from the book, “Atomic Habits” by James Clear.
The meeting held at Becker Vineyards tasting room, 307 E. Main St., Fredericksburg, will help members create effective habits to help meet their 2025 goals.
Devil’s Sinkhole holds first-day hike; other hikes resume
The Devil’s Sinkhole State Natural Area at Rocksprings had a full “America’s First Day Hike” set of events.
The “America’s First Day Hike” is an event held by many of the nation’s state parks to kick off national park visitation each year.
During the “America’s First Day Hike” event, volunteers of the Devil’s Sinkhole Society welcomed 19 participants from around Texas, including Midland, Houston, Corpus Christi, San Antonio, a family of eight from Longview, including an exchange student from Nagoya, Japan, and Rocksprings. The group of 19 hikers enjoyed a calm walk along the state natural area’s Buzzard Trap Trail.
The group was led by two master naturalists who helped explain some of the many highlights of this special Texas Parks location.
The regular schedule includes a guided visit to the Devil’s Sinkhole National Natural Landmark. Until mid-January, the day tour is the only tour available from the volunteers of the Devil’s Sinkhole Society. Starting Jan. 18, nature walks will be available.
These two tours are available Wednesdays through Sundays and preferred start times for the two tours are 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. The bat tours do not begin until spring.

UT tries to hook people on Thirsty Thursday
The first Texas Exes Thirsty Thursday of the new year will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9.
The meeting will focus on plans for the Fredericksburg chapter’s upcoming events that include: Project Worldwide and highway cleanup in February and the annual Texas Independence Day Celebration and Scholarship Fundraiser in March.
The agenda will also include a report on the highly successful Christmas Adopt-a-Family initiative and venues for upcoming spring 2025 Thirsty Thursday meetings.
The gathering will be held at the Club at Barons CreekSide, located at 316 Goehmann Lane in Fredericksburg.
The Club at Barons CreekSide offers a variety of wine and beers, plus a menu of specialty appetizers and entrees. Music is scheduled at 6:30 p.m. and members are invited to stay for dinner and entertainment.
All current and former students and their families and all friends of the University of Texas at Austin are encouraged to attend.

Coffee with City Manager ahead Jan. 15 at golf course
The City of Fredericksburg announces the next monthly Coffee with the City Manager, to be held from 8-9 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15 at the Cardinal Room at Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Golf Course, located at 341 Golfers Loop.
This is an opportunity to get answers to local government-related questions or share ideas and concerns with the city manager in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
This event is held every month, and all citizens are encouraged to attend and actively participate in this exchange of ideas.
Vereins Quilt Guild to meet Jan. 18 at Zion Lutheran
The Vereins Quilt Guild will meet Saturday, Jan. 18 at Zion Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall, 424 W. Main St.
The Fellowship Hall parking is off West Austin Street. Doors open at 8:30 a.m. with the meeting starting at 9 a.m.
Persons interested in quilting are invited to join guild members as they catch up after the holiday break. Members will share their holiday makes and discuss the club’s plans for 2025.
“We have wonderful programs planned for the upcoming year and we’d love to have you participate,” said Hayden Weirich, second vice president.

Historical society to hold annual business meeting
The Gillespie County Historical Society will host their annual membership business meeting at 9 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 25.
The meeting will be at the Gillespie County Historical Society Sanctuary at 312 W. San Antonio St.
Members are invited for a light breakfast, followed by a business meeting, which will include a recap of 2024 and plans for 2025.

Daddy-Daughter Dance set for Friday, Feb. 7
The City of Fredericksburg Parks and Recreation Department will host its fifth annual Daddy-Daughter Dance on Friday, Feb. 7, 2025 at Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park’s Pioneer Pavilion.
Tickets for the Cowgirl Discothemed evening of fun will go on sale at noon, Wednesday, Dec. 11.
The two-hour event, which runs from 6:30-8:30 p.m., provides the dads and daughters in the community with an opportunity to dress up and dance the night away.
In addition to DJ-led games and dancing, the event will include light refreshments and a commemorative photo.
Tickets are $10 per person and can be purchased online, or in-person at Park Headquarters, 432 Lady Bird Drive, Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
