WATCH DOGS program coming to middle school

The national WATCH DOGS (Dads of Great Students) intiative is coming to Fredericksburg Middle School, starting with an informational meeting for dads and father figures.

The meeting will be Tuesday, Jan. 14 at the FMS Library from 5:30-7 p.m. with free pizza for attendees.

To RSVP or for questions about the meeting, contact Leslie Windham, FMS Caritas Family Liasion at 254-744-2573 or email lesliew@fisd.org.

The program is intended to invite fathers and father figures to volunteer in local schools, as studies by the U.S. Department of Education have shown that positive adult male role models can positively affect development and educational success of children.

This includes increased graduation rates, improved grades, decreased involvement with drugs and alcohol and decreased criminal activity and teen pregnancy.

The program intends to give students male role models and provide schools with additional help.

The WATCH DOGS program was created by parents and educators in 1998, and now spans across 5,585 schools in the United States, Canada, Italy, Germany and Japan.

For more information on the national WATCH DOGS program, call 1-888-540-3647, email info@dadsofgreatstudents.com or visit dadsofgreatstudents.com.
