The Fredericksburg Middle School boys’ basketball teams faced the Wimberley Danforth Junior High Texans on Wednesday, Jan. 8.
Both the seventh and eighth grade White teams traveled to Wimberly again over the weekend, playing in a three-game tournament on Saturday, Jan. 11.
Seventh grade White
The 7 White team fell to the Texans, 26-18, on Wednesday, Jan. 8.
Scorers included Isaac Rivera and Paxton King, with six points each, Ethan Flink with three, Zane Oestreich with two and Jacob Howell with one.
On Saturday, Jan. 11, the Billies redeemed themselves with a 23-10 victory over the Texans in the first game of the tournament.
Paxton King was the lead scorer with eight points.
In the second game of the tournament, the White squad lost a close match to the Marble Falls Mustangs, 20-15.
Then in the final game of the tournament, the Texans and the Billies faced off again, with a loss for the White squad, 47-15.
Seventh grade Red
The 7 Red squad also lost to the Texans, 39-28.
The afternoon’s top scorer was Gavin Espinoza with 12 points.
Ethan Southard earned nine points, followed by Knox Padgett, Hudson Staudt and Caden Malinak with two each. Liam Salinas also earned one point.
“Coming off a long two-week break, the boys were a little slow and rusty starting the second half,” coach Alfredo Dugue said. “We adjusted in the second half, scoring most of our points, but came up short losing to Wimberley.”
Eighth grade White
The 8 White squad earned a win over Wimberley, 30-26.
DJ Allen was the top scorer with eight points, followed by Jayden Botello with seven and Josue Rodriguez Licona with six.
Levi Harrison, James Simington and Jesse Becker all earned three points each.
Results were not available for the Wimberley Tournament as of publication.
Eighth grade Red
The Billies 8 Red fell to the Texans, 55-32.
Adrian Cruz and Luke McKibben earned 10 points each, followed by Logan Weirich with seven and Samuel Vaughn with two.
“We were missing a few key players and we were battling injuries,” coach Rom Cianchetti said. “Our young men played and hustled all four periods with little breaks.”

The eighth grade teams will play at Loma Alta and the seventh grade teams will play at FMS. White team matchups will start at 5 p.m. and Red teams will begin at 6 p.m
