The Fredericksburg High School varsity boys’ baseball team dropped two games against district rival Davenport during the past week.
Fredericksburg opened the week with a close 3-1 loss at home against Davenport last Tuesday.
The weather changed the schedule around a little bit on Friday when the Billies squared off against Davenport once again during the late afternoon hours.
This time, the Billies lost to Davenport, 9-1, Friday afternoon at Davenport High School.
“Davenport’s a heck of a ballclub,” Head Coach Chadd Flick said. “Our biggest thing is that they executed the small things that we needed to do. For us, we didn’t execute the small things on our side.”

FHS (15-6, 2-2 district) lost a heartbreaker to the Davenport Wolves last Tuesday, 3-1, at the FHS Baseball Field.
“We didn’t pitch as well as I wanted us to,” Flick said. “But we still competed, and Harrison Langford pitched his tail off. I’m proud of his effort.”
Harrison Langford stepped on the mound and picked up two quick outs to start the game off with his defense stepping up behind him.
Langford walked one batter, and the Wolves hit a single to score one run a few plays later.
Davenport took a quick 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
The Billies answered the call offensively.
In the bottom of the first inning, FHS loaded the bases after Creek Frantzen and Diego Guevara were walked and Colten Wolfe was hit by a pitch.
Sam Brewer stepped up to the plate and hit into a fielder’s choice, scoring Frantzen from third base.
This tied the game at 1-1 after the first inning.
From here, it was a pitching duel with no runs scored by either team until the top of the seventh inning.
With the game closing in during the seventh inning, Davenport tacked on two runs to take a 3-1 lead in the top of the seventh inning.
“Davenport was very well polished and a great ballclub,” Flick said. “You’ve got to play perfect baseball to be able to compete with them.”
Langford and Brody Beyer were able to get on base with no outs in the bottom of the seventh, but the Billies were struck out twice and Beyer was picked off trying to steal second base, ending the game for the Billies in heartbreaking fashion.
“We have to learn how to execute the small things and we are going to be OK,” Flick said.
Langford pitched a complete game, going up against 31 batters.
He threw 62 strikes out of 107 pitches.
